I hear Christians state all of the time that our nation is a Christian nation founded upon biblical principles. I believe if this is a valid thought then our government officials are not our problem.
The problem is when we have a church of over 10,000 members and less than 50 show up for prayer…and the pastor never does.
The problem is when we boast of a large church; yet the building is rarely filled on a mid-week service.
The problem is that the only time we rise up is when there is a crisis…and primarily if that crisis could affect our comfort or convenience.
The problem is that we carry the name, Christian; yet treat each other like heathens, especially if they do not agree with us or our political views.
The problem is when, as Christians, we decide our politics across party lines; deciding that if someone is Democrat they must be unsaved and if someone is a Republican they are religiously unreasonable.
The problem is when we are willing to stand in line for hours for an iPhone and cannot sit still in a church service for an hour.
The problem is that Sunday morning is a time of one of the largest gatherings all over the world as we gather to worship the Lord and learn more about His Word. In the midst of so many people, few will receive a phone call later in that week from someone in their congregation who is interested in their life or what they are doing. I believe the local church is one of the loneliest places on the earth.
The problem rests in what we are not willing to die for; yet our forefathers thought we were worth it to fight for our freedom for all of the above.
Our rights and privileges are not only being taken from us; we are giving them away by our own lack of participating with God and His Word. It would help if we would become active in the rights we still have.
The biblical characters and contemporary church fathers committed their lives to the plans and purposes of God.
There are legitimate problems in every government. The way we decide to handle them does not always alleviate the problem. Even when we do what God says to do does not always alleviate the problem. But He did promise us peace when we pray, keep our minds stayed on Him and pursue peace.
Paul says it this way:
Php 4:9 Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Want peace? Do what Paul says to do. There was not anything comfortable or convenient about his life!
